Marga Gual Soler Talks About Climate Change Solutions

Marga Gual Soler’s Environmental Podcast Part 1

Dr. Marga Gual Soler shares a conversation with Dr. Greg Stone and Ian Somerhalder about the role of science diplomacy in tackling global climate change. Marga shares her mission to understand the climate change impact and promote climate change solutions through science diplomacy. Her work with the American Association of the Advancement of Science is valuable to the global climate change movement. It has led to a coalition of scientific disciplines that reconnect climatology with public policies. Dr. Soler engages Dr. Stone and Ian Somerhalder on how to include the general public in climate change solutions. Her work as a diplomat has sparked necessary conversations around global climate change.

Marga Gual Soler’s Environmental Podcast Part 2

In Part 2 with Dr. Greg Stone and Ian Somerhalder, Marga highlights the Antarctic Treaty as an example of diplomacy and global climate change. The 1958 treaty was one of the first examples of effective science diplomacy and is still a successful model of science-based governance. Climate change solutions like the Antarctic Treaty eventually led to the creation of groundbreaking initiatives like the Paris Climate Agreement. In December 2019, Marga will be joining 1,000 women on an expedition to Antarctica to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the treaty. Dr. Soler’s work in creating unique climate modeling platforms is building collaborative leadership in the field of global climate change.

Marga Gual Soler’s Environmental Podcast Part 3

Climate change is transforming our planet at an unprecedented scale, from increased vulnerability to extreme weather events to resource scarcity and rising geopolitical tensions. Dr. Greg Stone and Ian Somerhalder discuss with Dr. Marga Gual Soler a global, collaborative, and inclusive leadership model to tackle our most pressing challenges through science diplomacy.

More About Our Global Climate Change Diplomat

Dr. Marga Gual Soler is a science diplomat, exploring the power of science as a universal language when battling global climate change.  Her pioneering work brings climate science together with governments, universities and international organizations worldwide. Dr. Soler’s mission is to provide every individual with a voice in climate science to create climate change solutions adapted to the culture. It will only happen through a communal effort, where every individual takes a stand for an earth energy budget. By advocating for global climate change solutions in communities, Dr. Soler is driven to create climate change mitigation policies towards ocean conservation.

Dr. Soler grew up surrounded by the ocean on the island of Mallorca in a world that was just starting to learn about global climate change. Her passion for climate change impact was formed as a student when she received her BS in Biology and her Ph.D. in Molecular Biosciences. She then took her passion for science to the streets and promoted the role of climate science in international diplomacy. During her time at the American Association of the Advancement of Science, she created the Center for Science Diplomacy. Her approach to creating climate change solutions is based on educating and training the future. This level of engagement will ensure that future generations have the tools to combat global climate change.

Science diplomacy is at the heart of creating global climate change solutions for Dr. Soler. While at the American Association of the Advancement of Science (AAAS) she oversaw the landmark partnership in climate science between the United States and Cuba.  This collaboration improved the relationship of two countries that have been at odds for the past six decades. Dr. Soler’s work in creating climate change impact extends past this example. She was also an integral part in Horizon 2020 projects, where she pioneered the Inventing a Shared Science Diplomacy for Europe (InsSciDE) and Science Diplomacy for Global Challenges (S4D4C). These are only a few contributions she has made to the global climate change movement.

For the past ten years, Dr. Soler has traveled to forty countries, fostering conversations between science, policy, and society about global climate change. She is the founder of climate change solutions like Science Diplomacy & Leadership Program. In 2014, Dr. Soler created an interactive way to display climate modeling through a combination of climatology and performing arts. She called it the  Science Slam Festival. This ingenious idea makes engaging dense conversations–like the earth energy budgetfun. A group of scientists will get a chance to present their area of study for 10 minutes to a group of everyday people. Then everyday people will take an idea like the earth energy budget and break it down. When she is not on a plane traveling the world and speaking about global climate change, you will find her scuba diving.
